In an importantreminder for the PF subscribers, linking of Aadhaar card with PF account tillSeptember 1, if failing to do which will mean that EPF benefits may becurtailed for you.
Employees' ProvidentFund Organisation (EPFO) had couple of months ago deferred its order on linkingof Aadhaar card with PF account till September 1, 2021.
Speaking about thenew rule and what it entails, Vaibhav Bhardwaj, Partner, IndusLaw, told aleading news site, "The Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government ofIndia brought Section 142 of the Code on Social Security, 2020 into effect fromMay 03, 2021, whereby an employee or any other beneficiary in order to obtainany benefit under the Social Security Code, is required to establish his/heridentity (or the identity of her/his family members or dependents, as the casemay be) through Aadhaar number."
In addition to themonthly EPF contributions from employers, if your PF account is not linkedto your Aadhaar, then other EPFO contributions will also be impacted startingSeptember 1, 2021.
Stressing on theimportance of linking Aadhaar and UAN, Bhardwaj further added, "EPFO hasgiven employers the responsibility to make employees’ accounts Aadhaarverified. In case if the employee’s EPF account is not Aadhaar verified, it maymean that the employer’s contribution shall not be credited into the employees’account."

SaraswathiKasturirangan, a Partner at Deloitte India said, "Linking of Aadhar withthe UAN is mandatory. Effective September 1, 2021, employers will not be ableto remit PF for cases where such linking is not done. Employers need to usethis extended time to make sure that suitable communication is sent toemployees advising them of the consequences of non-linking, and provideguidance on how the linking can be completed."
