Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, Chairman, NationalHighways Authority of India (NHAI) today dedicated the flyover on Cheema Chowkfor residents. This over bridge is part of the Ferozepur Road-Samrala Chowkelevated road project. He was also accompanied by Deputy Commissioner VarinderKumar Sharma and other senior officials.
Later, he chaired a review meeting with DeputyCommissioner, Commissioner of Police Rakesh Agrawal, and other senior officialsat Sutton House in Punjab Agricultural University, here today.
He also took a round of several ongoingprojects on Ludhiana-Chandigarh Road, National Highway 44 (GT Road), LadhowalByepass, besides other projects. During the meeting, the police officialsapprised the NHAI Chairman about traffic related issues on the nationalhighways passing through the city. The NHAI Chairman assured the DistrictAdministration that to check fatal accidents of cyclists and people on twowheelers, foot over bridges with ramps would be constructed so that thecyclists and two wheeler riders can easily cross the roads. He also assured theDistrict Administration officials that dedicated cycle tracks can beconstructed along the highways if the district administration provides themland.
During the visit on Ladhowal Byepass project,he directed the NHAI officials to install traffic lights near the F2 Racewayintersection on temporary basis so that the problem of traffic congestion is eased. He also assured that a permanentsolution would be provided for this intersection keeping in mind the needs offuture generations.
The NHAI officials also informed the chairmanthat permanent exit and entry points would be developed near Greenland schoolnear Jalandhar Byepass, near Focal Point, near Transport Nagar and other pointsalong the NH44. The Chairman directed the officials to ensure proper care infinalising location of these points so that it does not lead to any trafficaccidents in the future. He also assured that all illegal cuts would be closedto avoid road accidents. For the help of people visiting the city, proper signboards would also be installed before entering this city.
He categorically mentioned to the NHAIofficials that Ludhiana is close to his heart and special care should be takenwhile implementing and planning any projects in the city. He assured theresidents that the NHAI would ensure that best quality highways are constructedfor the benefit of residents.
Prominent among those who attended the meetingincluded Joint CP Deepak Pareek, SDMs Amrinder Singh Malhi and Dr BaljinderSingh Dhillon, ACP Traffic Gurdev Singh, several project directors of NHAI,besides other senior officials of district administration.
