Nitin Kohli’s efforts to revive Jalandhar's Burlton Park project turn reality, CM Mann & Arvind Kejriwal to inaugurate on June 11

The ambitious ₹77.7 crore Burlton Park project, spanning 62 acres, is being developed under the Smart City Mission and is designed to host national and international-level competitions.

The long-pending Burlton Park Sports Hub project in Jalandhar is set to restart, thanks to the tireless efforts of AAP Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal, Local Body Minister Dr. Ravjot, Mayor Vaneet Dhir, and Jalandhar Central Halka Incharge Nitin Kohli. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, along with AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, will inaugurate the resumption of work of Burlton Park on June 11.

The ambitious ₹77.7 crore project, spanning 62 acres, is being developed under the Smart City Mission and is designed to host national and international-level competitions. The upgraded sports complex will include world-class infrastructure for cricket, football, hockey, volleyball, badminton, judo, table tennis, and an Olympic-standard swimming pool.

The project, originally proposed nearly a decade ago, gained new momentum through the joint efforts of Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal, Local Bodies Minister Dr. Ravjot, Mayor Vaneet Dhir, and Jalandhar Central Halka Incharge Nitin Kohli. Kohli played a key role by approaching MP Mittal, whose intervention ensured the contractor’s return and the re-approval of the work from Chandigarh.

Facilities at Burlton Park Sports Hub

The Burlton Park Sports Hub, spanning 62 acres, will include top-tier facilities such as:

  • Synthetic athletic tracks
  • International-standard hockey turfs (2)
  • Football and outdoor sports courts
  • Tennis, basketball, and volleyball courts
  • Skating rink and cycling track
  • Open gyms and sports pavilions

As per sources in the known development, efforts are also being made to include infrastructure for exhibitions and industry events, further enhancing the park’s utility beyond sports. Post-inauguration, many of these world-class facilities will be available to the public free of cost, significantly boosting access to quality sports infrastructure.

With this revival, Jalandhar is poised to reclaim its reputation as a sports hub. The upgraded Burlton Park is expected to host international hockey matches, and there is potential for IPL matches similar to Mohali, owing to the standard of infrastructure being developed.
