With587 fresh cases, the Jalandhar district on Friday recorded the highest eversingle-day spike in Covid-19 cases. Around 500 cases were reported in the monthof September last year, during the peak of the first phase of Covid outbreak.
Fromthe 587 cases reported today, 502 cases are from Jalandhar city, while the remaining85 cases were from the rural areas and nearby villages of Jalandhar.
Inaddition, four more people succumbed to the virus on Friday. For the last 15days, the daily Covid cases tally is crossing the 300 mark, making thesituation more alarming in Jalandhar and in entire Punjab.
Meanwhile,the total samples taken in Jalandhar till date are 803506, while the active casesin district stands at 3315. Besides, the results of 2750 samples are still awaited.
Inaddition, fifty-six people succumbed to covid19 in Punjab on Thursday as 3,119fresh cases were reported, taking the state’s infection tally to 2,63,090,according to Punjab government’s medical bulletin.
Thoughas per the directions of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, the covid19restrictions in Punjab have been extended till April 30, there seems to be norespite in the fresh cases being reported.
Inorder to control the transmission, the cops have not only strengthenedpatrolling against the unnecessary movement of people and vehicles, but havealso intensified the challan drive against Covid violations in the state. Thetesting of patients is also active on various police nakas and the police arealso taking strict action against shopkeepers for keeping their shops openduring the curfew hours.
