In a swift operation, Pathankot Police have successfully nabbed two notorious criminals involved in a series of snatching incidents in the city. The victim, Neelam Kumari, was walking home for lunch when she was targeted by two boys on a black motorcycle. One of the boys swooped down and snatched her 4-gram diamond earring before fleeing the scene.
The arrested accused have been identified as Robin and Vishal resident of Sujanpur District Pathankot, were apprehended by the Pathankot Police during the investigation. The stolen gold and the motorcycle used during the incident were also recovered.
Expanding on the matter for the press media, Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh, the Senior Superintendent of Police in Pathankot, said that special police teams, under the guidance of gazetted rank officers, have been established in every subdivision of the district to put an end to petty crimes and theft incidents. Besides, all the prominent and vital points have been equipped with high tech CCTV cameras to maintain round the clock vigil.
In relation to the aforementioned incident, DSP city Lakhwinder Singh has overseen the case, and the team led by SHO division number 2 promptly initiated an investigation following the report of the snatching incident at the police station. The police team has thoroughly examined all the CCTV footage in the surrounding area to identify the culprits. After following digital footprints and employing basic policing techniques, both suspects have been apprehended. The police party recovered the stolen earrings motorcycle bearing No. PB-08-DT-7815 ( Splender) used in the crime from their possession. A case has been registered at Police Station Division No. 02 Pathankot under Section 379-B and 34 IPC.
SSP Khakh has lauded the efforts of the investigating team and said, "We are committed to maintaining law and order in the city, and such incidents will not be tolerated. Our team worked tirelessly to solve the case and bring the culprits to justice."
Roban and Vishal, who stand accused, have been placed under police custody, while a thorough investigation is ongoing. It is worth noting that Roban, a resident of Meas Mandi Sujanpur, had previously been charged with two offences under Section 379 and 411 of the Indian Penal Code at the Sujanpur Pathankot Police Station. Additionally, he is also facing charges under Section 46 of the Prison Act, as indicated in FIR No. 131, dated 02.08.2022, at Division No. 2 Police Station.
SSP Khakh added that the Pathankot Police have successfully traced every instance of snatching that has occurred within the district over the past six months.
This arrest sends a clear message to those who indulge in criminal activities that they will not escape the long arm of the law. The Pathankot Police will continue to work towards ensuring the safety and security of the citizens.
