PM Modi blames previous governments for hike in fuel price

At a time of inaugurating fuel projects in Tamil Nadu, Modi said, "“Can a diverse and talented nation like ours be so energy import dependent.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has blamed the previousgovernments for the rising price of fuels in India as the petrol price in thecountry reached more than Rs 100.

According to a report by PTI, the Prime Minister said ifthe previous governments had focused on reducing India's energy importdependence on foreign nations, it would not have burdened the middle class.

At a time of inaugurating fuel projects in Tamil Nadu,Modi said, "“Can a diverse and talented nation like ours be so energyimport dependent.” He added, “I do not want to criticise anyone but I want tosay, had we focused on this subject much earlier, our middle-class would not beburdened.”

Meanwhile,the petrol prices in India are costlier than the neighboring countries. The price ofpetrol crossed Rs 100 per litre on Wednesday. Reportedly, the price of petrolhas reached Rs 100.07 in Sriganganagar, Rajasthan.

According toglobalpetrolprices.com, petrol in neighboring country Pakistan is being sold athalf the price (Rs 51.14 per litre). On the other hand in China it is 74.74rupees per litre.

Average petrolprice in the world is Rs 78.65 per litre. According to the Indian rupee, theaverage price per liter of petrol in the world is Rs 78.65. The cheapest petrolin India is Rs 83.19 liters in Itanagar, capital of Arunachal Pradesh.

Its price inDelhi is 89.54 rupees a liter, which means petrol is costlier than the worldaverage price in India.
