Punjab 2025 Holiday Calendar out mark month-wise Most & Least days off

The Department of Personnel (DoP) Government of Punjab, has officially released the Punjab State Holiday Calendar for 2025, outlining public, gazetted, and restricted holidays to be observed across government offices, educational institutions, and public services. This calendar ensures clarity and consistency in holiday observances throughout the state, allowing citizens, employees, and organizations to plan efficiently. 

The authority for declaring the calendar for the state of Punjab is exclusively in the hands of The Department of Personnel (DoP) Government of Punjab. This department issues the state holiday calendar annually with the approval of the Chief Secretary of Punjab. It serves as a definite guide for scheduling public events, institutional closures, and state-level observance.

Among all the months, the month of January and February has the least amount of holidays.

January 2025

Usually, the month of January has three prominent holidays at the state level which include the birth anniversary of the 10th Guru Sahib, the Lohri, and Republic Day. 

• On January 6, (Monday) all departments and institutions operating in Punjab, will remain closed in observance of the auspicious occasion of Guru Gobind Singh Maharaj’s birth anniversary. 
• On January 13 (Monday) the state has declared a holiday for the celebration of Lohri, which is exclusively the state-level festival of Punjab. 
• On January 26, 2025, India will mark the 76th anniversary of Republic Day. The state institutions will remain close to observe this important day in India’s history. Since this year, January 26th is a Sunday which is already a holiday so the month of January shall have only two additional holidays in the year 2025. 

February 2025

This is another month with the least holidays

This year the month of February has two state-level holidays in Punjab. 

• On February 12, (Wednesday), government departments and private institutions in Punjab will remain closed for the observance of Shri Guru Ravidas ji’s birth anniversary. 
• February 26, (Wednesday) will be a holiday to celebrate the pious day of Mahashivratri,

April, Most-Holiday-rich- month of 2025

In contrast, April emerges as the month with the highest number of holidays in Punjab. This month includes several religious and cultural observances. 

• April 6 (Sunday): Ram Navami

• April 8 (Tuesday): Guru Nabha dass ji’s Birth anniversary

• April 10 (Thursday):  Mahavir Jayanti

• April 13(Sunday): Baisakhi, a significant harvest festival marking the Sikh New Year 

• April 14 (Monday): Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti, honoring the architect of the Indian constitution 

• April 18 (Friday): Good Friday 

• April 29 (Tuesday): Bhagwan Parshuram Jayanti 

This vibrant lineup of holidays reflects Punjab’s rich cultural diversity and reverence for historical and spiritual leaders. Although April could have a total of 7 holidays, since two of the prominent holidays of Ram Navami and Baisakhi fall on Sundays so the the month has a total of five holidays other than then Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays.

The month of October also features important holidays in Punjab

• October 2 (Thursday): Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra (falling on the same day)

• October 7 (Tuesday): Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti 

• October 20 (Monday): Diwali, The festival of lights 

• October 22 (Wednesday): Vishwakarma Day
