Punjab people are expecting some respite from the scorching heat as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts the arrival of rain towards the end of this week. Following a long period of hot and dry weather, light to moderate rains are expected to start on or around June 17, 2025, and bring relief to the dry state.
The climate will be largely dry and extremely hot, with a scorching 44°C to 50°C temperature in most districts. No substantial precipitation will be witnessed during these days.
Patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms from June 17 onward, occurring intermittently for a few days, are forecasted by IMD. These rains are likely to be light to moderate in intensity and scattered in nature over the state.
Punjab usually experiences around 3 to 8 rainy days in June, with monthly rainfall averaging approximately 60 mm. This year, too, the rains shall come in the same pattern and appear mid- to late June.
Punjab's blistering heat will continue during the first half of the week, but from June 17, 2025, light to moderate showers are likely to set in, providing a respite from the heat and heralding the gradual onset of the monsoon season in the state.
