Onthe occasion of International Women’s Day, the Punjab State Women CommissionChairperson Manisha Gulati accompanied by Commissioner of Police Rakesh Agrawalon Monday inaugurated a mega camp-related to the crime against women andchildren, at Police Lines.
Talkingwith the applicants during the camp, Punjab State Women Commission ChairpersonManisha Gulati said that the Punjab Government and police are committed tosafeguarding the women and children from the scourge of the crime against them.She said that we are duty-bound to ensure proper protection from crime and anykind of exploitation.
Sheexhorted the people to play their role responsibly to wipe the menace out ofsociety.
Meanwhile,the Commissioner of Police informed that in this mega camp, the Commissioneratepolice have called up 800 applicants of the district to settle their complaintsunder special message drive and four zones under the supervision of ADCP rankofficer were formed.
Hesaid that a total of 171 couples were reunited during the camp and Punjab StateWomen Commission Chairperson Manisha Gulati also gave a shagun of Rs 1000 toone of the couples.
Agrawalalso told that the commissioner police also facilitated mutual divorce of 81couples despite the police officials repeatedly counselled them for thesettlement.
Headded that as many as 32 cases were also registered during camp after policeofficials found some complaints of the dowry, harassment genuine.
