Punjab to start overseas study & placement cell from February 15: Employment Generation Minister

GoI gave its consent for this cell; To Launch Mission Sky for skill development and placement of drug abused youth

Chandigarh, January 5-Punjab government will start a foreignstudy and placement cell from February 15 which would be inaugurated by CM CaptainAmarinder Singh. This cell has been formed under 'Punjab Ghar Ghar Rozgar andKarobaar' mission for the benefit of aspirants who wish to study abroad. 

Disclosing this here today, Punjab Employment GenerationMinister Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi said that this cell would be started fromMohali as pilot project. At this cell, the youth will be facilitated withcounseling and consultation for study and work visa. All the formalities havebeen completed regarding this cell and union government has also given its nodfor the formation of this cell. In the next phase, the talks are on withforeign universities and colleges for required assistance to get study visa.This cell would be proving beneficial for Punjabi youth to get study and workvisa according to their interests and qualification. 

In a press conference here at Punjab Bhawan alongwithSecretary Rahul Tewari and Director Harpreet Singh Sudan, Mr. Channi said thatPunjab Government led by CM Captain Amarinder Singh will provide jobs and selfemployment opportunities to as many as 10 lakh people under 'Ghar Ghar Rozgarand Karobaar'mission. In this drive, 1 lakh government jobs, 4 lakh privatesector jobs and 5 lakh self-employment opportunities will be provided to youth.Under mission Ghar Ghar Rozgar, more than 15 lakh youth have been facilitatedwith jobs and self-employment during the present government regime till date. 

Terming the 'Ghar Ghar Rozgar Mission' a game changer, theCabinet Minister said that the government has completely restructured theemployment generation department and Punjab Skill Development Mission has alsobeen brought under it. District employment offices have also been updated asDistrict Employment and Enterprises Bureaus. Besides organising Job Fairs,these bureaus have also been facilitating more than 1,100 young employmentseeking aspirants prior to outbreak of Covid-19. During pandemic, these officesfacilitated youth with online training and information.

In view of expectations of Japanese investment in Punjab, hesaid that the department has started Japanese language training courses underwhich 37 Master trainers have been appointed who would provide 200-hourtraining to youth from 18 to 45 years. The department has also launched aspecial ' Mission Red Sky' following the directions of CM Captain AmarinderSingh to save the Punjabi youth from drug abuse by Skilling them andplacements. Under this mission, 500 youth from each district and a total of11,000 youth will be given skill development training to provide employment.
