Punjab Sports and Youth Services Minister Rana GurmitSingh Sodhi, on Tuesday, termed the action taken by Shimla Police to arrest theyoungsters of Punjab who were peacefully raising their voices in favour ofagitating farmers as an attack on their constitutional rights and democraticfabric of the country. He said that the arrest was made at the behest of BJPChief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, who wants to appease their political bosses.
In a statement here, Rana Sodhi said that the SupremeCourt of India made it clear that peaceful protest is a democratic right duringhearing on the petitions pertaining to farmers' protest at Delhi, but thebeleaguered Himachal Pradesh BJP Government is appeasing Modi Government byadopting unconstitutional tactics.
Strongly condemning the arrest of the peaceful protestingyouth, he said that these youngsters have not violated any law and every personhas the right to speak, think and act under the Constitution of India.
The Cabinet Minister said that earlier at the behest ofthe Union Government, the Haryana Government was also taken oppressive steps tostop the farmers but in vain.
Rana Sodhi said that the Union government would have tobow down before the public outrage and the demands of the farmers would have tobe met.
