Asking Indian Express newspaper to cease and desist fromreporting unsubstantiated news against Republic TV- a television channel withregard to the alleged TRP scam, a legal notice has been sent.
The Indian Express had published a news on January 25that was opposed by Republic TV. The Indian Express in their report hasmentioned that the editor-in-chief of the channel Arnab Goswami bribed BARCformer CEO Partho Dasgupta to rise the TRP of his channel.
The channel in the legal notice sent to The IndianExpress said that the campaign was an attempt to tarnish the reputation ofRepublic TV and it also intends to further Indian Express' interests.
In the legal notice, the channel used the wordsensationalism against the report covered by the newspaper. In the notice, theRepublic TV through Phoenix Legal has stated, "The very headline of yournews report would mislead any reader into wrongly believing that as a matter offact, payments were made by our client, Mr. Goswami to Mr. Partho Dasgupta.Such a headline is squarely deliberate and mischievous."
The notice further states that the Indian Express didn'tmention that statement was extracted by Mumbai police through coercion andduress from former BARC CEO.
As the TRP scam is still being probed, the legal noticesent to Indian Express further states, "You have acted as a judge, juryand executioner in breach of all journalistic ethics and against thewell-settled laws. By concealing material facts, pronouncing our client guiltyof TRP manipulation, even though the matter is pending investigation and isalso subjudice, your assertions amount to criminal contempt of court."
Now, the channel has asked IE to stop publishing alleged defamatorynews about Goswami in the alleged TRPmanipulation scam.
