Rs 96 lakh in cash seized and 65 individuals for alleged gambling arrested from a Bengaluru hotel

"We are on the lookout for the organizers of the gambling event as they are still at large or on the run," informed Bengaluru joint police commissioner.

Bengaluru police, in a surprise raid to a city hotel, seizedRs 96 lakh and seized 65 people for allegedly gambling.

"On a tip-off, the city crime branch (CCB) raided ahotel at Mahadevapura in the eastern suburb, arrested all the 65 accused forgambling and seized cash (Rs 96 lakh) from them," said Bengaluru jointpolice commissioner Sandeep Patil in a statement here.

In what may be termed as a major crackdown on gambling inthe city, the dramatic raid revealed that most of the gamblers were from theneighbouring Andhra Pradesh who were lured to participate in the event in thistech city.

"We are on the lookout for the organisers of thegambling event as they are still at large or on the run," asserted Patil.

On condition of anonymity, someone from the police forceclaimed that the jurisdictional police failed to notice the presence ofvisitors in large numbers.

Gambling is a state subject in India and the Public GamblingAct of 1867 is a central law that prohibits running or being in charge of apublic gambling house.
