The Supreme Court on Friday said that Mayawati should reimburse the public money she used to construct and install statues of herself and BSP's party symbol Elephant and other Dalit symbols.
The bench headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi referred it to as a tentative view and will give a final date of hearing on April 2.
The Supreme Court has made these remarks after hearing a petition filed by an advocate contending the use of public money for the propagation of a political party or constructing own statues.
The Mayawati Government had spent Rs 2600 crore on building Dalit Memorials, statues of BSP founder Kanshi Ram and BSP's Election symbol 'Elephant'.
