The Indian Discus player, Kamalpreet Kaur is sleep-deprived as she was not able to sleep a night before the finals match; this isbecause she was nervous. Today, she spoke to Rakhi Tyagi, her coach that shewasn’t able to sleep. They had a conversation just 4 hours prior to the match. Accordingto the sources, the coach told that she wasn’t able to sleep because ofnervousness, Rakhi guided her to focus and just give her best, and the coachasked her not to worry as she has nothing to lose.
On Saturday, she qualified for the finals after standing2nd in the match, she had thrown 64m throw in all, 60.29m throw inthe start, and 63.97m in the second attempt. Other Indian women who are the AsianGames Gold medallist Seema Punia wasn’t able to qualify for the finals. The 1st position was held by USA’s Valarie Allman.

She has broken the National Record of Krishna Poonia of64.76m. With her 65.06m throw, Kamalpreet Kaur has become India’s first womanto throw a discus at a distance of 65+m. She was first a shot-putter, shestarted playing shot-put because her physical teacher inspired her to takepart, and after some time, she came to Badal’s SAI Academy. Rakhi Tyagi becameher coach in 2014, the same year when she started training.
On her birth, the family didn’t rejoice much as she wasthe first daughter, her father didn’t own much land, she has studied till 10thgrade. She has usually been involved as an athlete as she was heavily built. Her fathercouldn’t do much to support her because of lack of resources but could onlyprovide her with milk, ghee, etc. She used to travel 100 km on her own and isnow getting a pay off because of her hard work.
