A Station House Officer (SHO) was attacked by a group offour men in Jalandhar at around 1:45am on the intervening night ofSatudary-Sunday when he was on his night domination duty to enforce nightcurfew in the district.
SHO Bhargo camp Bhagwant Singh was doing patrolling inBhargo camp locality when he noticed few youth standing there. He said thatwhen he asked their reason of standing thereby violating the curfew norms, they grievouslythrashed him and his security.
After the attack, the victim was admitted at the civilhospital. The police also managed to arrest the two accused including amerchant navy official.
The arrested two youths were identified as Manpreet SinghS/o Ravinder Pal Singh and Kamalpreet Singh S/o Jaspal Singh. However, the twoother accused identified as Harmandeep Singh S/o Jaspal Singh and Avtar SinghS/o Ajit Singh fled from the spot.
Meanwhile, the Jalandhar Police are conducting raids tonab remaining two culprits and said they would be behind the bars soon.
When contacted SHOBhargo Camp, he said, "At around 1:45am, I saw four men venturing outside theirhomes near Mata Rani Chowk. Subsequently, I went to them and inquired why theywere out during the curfew hours. To my surprise they started arguing andhurled abuses on me. While I tried to take them in police custody, one of theyouth punched on my nose and I started to bleed. Within few seconds all of themattacked me”.
Meanwhile, my gunman and the driver who was at a distancereached the spot and held the accused. One of the accused also tried to snatchthe AK-47 rifle of my gunmen. A PCR van and ACP traffic Harwinder Singh alsoreached the spot and took control over the situation", said the SHO.
A case under sections 332, 333, 186, 353, 188 and 34 B ofIPC has been registered against all the accused at Bhargo Camp Police station.
Meanwhile a similar such incident took place in city onApril 3 wherein an Assitant Sub-inspector of rural police was also allegedlythrashed by some locals during the curfew hours. After a minor argument theaccused not only thrashed the cop but also plugged his stars from his uniform.
Copsattacked during raid in Abohar
Police officers were attacked in Abohar’s Dhani Chirag areawhen they went there to raid the premises after receiving a tip-off regarding liquorsmuggling. However, on reaching the spot, the armed miscreants present thereattacked the raiding policemen and damaged their van. Meanwhile, the policehave registered a case and a look out has been issued to arrest the culprits.
