Teacher dies of Covid-19 in Ludhiana, parents question govt orders of reopening of schools in state

A teacher suffering from corona was admitted to Ludhiana DMC today. She died at the hospital, while two of her family members also tested positive for Covid-19.

The situation induced by Coronavirus orCovid-19 across the country is evident and everybody knows how dangerous it hasbecome despite the rolling of vaccines across the country.

Although the pace of the coronavirus seems tobe slowing down in India, including Punjab, a big question remains in the mindsof parents whether to send their kids to school. Is it safe to do so? If theirchildren have a problem, who will be responsible for it?

The government has recently announcedthe reopening of classes I to IV. But the recent case of Covid-19 at aGovernment Senior Secondary School in Ghalib Kalan village in Jagraon has addedto parents' worries.

A teacher suffering from corona was admittedto Ludhiana DMC today. She died at the hospital, while two of her familymembers also tested positive for Covid-19.

Not only this, three other teachers andthree children of the school have also tested positive for the virus and thehealth department is in a state of shock.

According to the information received,one of the corona positive teachers of Government Senior Secondary SchoolGhalib Kalan, teacher Tejinder Kaur, whose condition was critical due tocorona, was admitted to DMC.

She was admitted to Ludhiana Hospital.On Saturday morning, the condition of the teacher deteriorated and she died.After the death of the teacher with Covid-19, fear among the people hasincreased regarding the virus in village Ghalib Kalan.

When asked DC, Ludhiana, Varinder KumarSharma about the incident, he confirmed that "The teacher tested covidpostive on January 20 and was undergoing treatment at Civil Hospital. However,today morning we received reports that she breathed her last."

"We have formed four teams ofhealth officials to conduct covid testing of the entire staff, faculty andstudent. Besides, we have ordered to close the school till Feb 4", headded.

Governmentannounces the re-opening of school

The Punjab government had announced lastWednesday that it was preparing to re-open all the schools. Meanwhile, primaryclasses are being opened in two phases.

The third and fourth classes are beingopened from January 27 and the first and second classes are being opened fromFebruary 1. Earlier, the government had announced to open classes IX to XII onOctober 15 last year. Following this, orders were issued on January 6 to reopenthe 5th to 8th classes.

Harpreet Kaur, mother of Rasleen Kaur, a class VIII student, raising question on the safety of students said, "The government must reconsider its decision of reopening of schools in the state. Though the vaccine has come, the danger surrounding covid still looms large. We parents are worried about the safety of our wards", she said.
