Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra on Saturday had written to Delhi Police alleging that three armed officers were deputed outside her house, stating that she had never asked for any protection nor she does she need any. She has requested the removal of the armed officers. “It appears I am under some sort of surveillance," she said in the letter.
Taking a turn to the Centre, Moitra said that the government should not waste resources on her protection rather they should defend everybody and asserted that she doesn’t need anything in special or even security.
"If you're surveilling me, ask me and I'll tell you. Indian democracy is already under threat, don't make us feel like we're living in Russian Gulag," she added.
What did Mahua Moitra mention in her letter to the Delhi police?
Addressing Barakhamba police station SHO in a letter, Mahua wrote, "This is to inform you that SHO, Police Station Barakhamba Road, had come to meet me at my residence yesterday (i.e., February 12, 2021) around 1830 hours, and shortly thereafter, around 2200 hours, three BSF (Border Security Force) officers armed with assault rifles had been deputed outside my residence.”
She further added that the behaviour of the armed forces shows that they are making records of the movements to and from her residence.
"It appears to me that I am under some sort of surveillance. I wish to remind you that Right to Privacy is a Fundamental Right guaranteed to me, as a citizen of this country, under the Constitution of India, 1950," she said.
She added, "Upon making inquiries, I was informed that the armed officers had been deputed from Police Station Barakhamba Road for my protection, however, I being an ordinary citizen of this country, did neither ask nor want any such protection. Therefore, you are requested to kindly withdraw these officers.”
