Tokyo Paralympics 2020: Noida DM Suhas LY storms into badminton semifinals

Suhas completed the win 21-6, 21-12 in just 19 minutes.

Noida District Magistrate and para-badmintonplayer Suhas L Yathiraj on Friday defeated Susanto Hary of Indonesia in hismen's singles SL4 - Group A second match of the ongoing Tokyo Paralympics.

Suhas, who has become the first civil servantfrom the country to represent India in the Tokyo Paralympics, completed the win21-6, 21-12 in just 19 minutes.

Suhas got off to a good start and sailedthrough his opening Game 21-6. Riding on the confidence, Suhas continued hisfine form and took an early lead in the second Game.

Suhas in his first match had also dominatedthe proceedings and completed the match in 19 minutes with a straight-setvictory.

Bhagat set the tone early in the game anddefeated Oleksandr in two straight sets to seal the match in 26 minutes.

Bhagat got off to a good start and maintainedhis lead to seal the first game 21-12. The Indian shuttler continued his fineform and won the second essay 21-19.

Suhas has impairment in one of his ankles,while Tarun has restricted knee movement following a severe injury that hesuffered at the age of eight.

Earlier, Palak Kohli, 19, and Parul Parmar,48, suffered their second successive loss in women’s doubles SL3-SU5 group A,going down 12-21, 20-22 to French pair of Lenaig Morin and Faustine Noel.

Suhas, the district magistrate of GautamBuddh Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, will face France's top seed Lucas Mazur, whileTarun will cross swords with Indonesia's Fredy Setiawan next later in the day.

While Suhas hardly broke any sweat during hiscontest, Tarun had to toil hard to edge out Hwan, who recovered from an openinggame reversal to grab the second game.

In the decider, Tarun made a sluggish startbut managed to grab a three-point lead at the interval.
