Heavy rain overnight in southern state Tamil Nadu affectedthe state where several areas in Chennai, including Perambur, Koratur, AnnaSalai, Guindy, T Nagar, and Adyar are heavily flooded. As per the IMD rainfallin the coming days would be more intense in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, andKaraikal. The weather agency advised civic bodies to rescue the people residingin low-lying areas of Tamil Nadu due to a red alert.

As heavy downpours struck states activities as schools,colleges and other govt organisations will remain inoperative in several partsof north coastal Tamil Nadu declared by the state government. Chief Minister MK Stalin has appealed to private companies to declare a holiday or allowemployees to work from home. Fishermen are also cautioned not to step towardsthe sea into the southeast Bay of Bengal in the coming days until the situationgets normal. The footage of drowningvehicles under water, uprooted trees and rescued people on boats in severalparts of Chennai as per the inspections had been done by local reporters.
Greater Chennai Corporation had opened up food camps, medicalcamps and relief centers across the city to help the flood victims since alow-pressure was formed over the eastern Arabian Sea which is the root cause ofunseasonal rainfall that put a great depression over the region and formed acyclonic circulation over southeast Bay of Bengal.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday spoke to ChiefMinister MK Stalin to discuss the situation of the heavy rainfall in Tamil Naduand assured of all possible support and relief from the Center to the affectedsouthern state.
