After the Uttarakhand glacier broke and damaged RishiGanga project as well as destroyed lives and property, Uma Bharti, a BJP leadersaid it was a matter of concern and warning. She added that as a minister shehad spoken against having a power project on Ganga or on its major tributaries.
Uma Bharti was union minister of water resources, riverdevelopment and Ganga rejuvenation during the first term of NDA.
Bharti added that a glacier breaking off had triggeredmassive damage including a damage to power project. She said, this disaster atRishi Ganga in the Himalayas is not only a matter of concern but also awarning.
In a report published in The Indian Express, Bharti wasquoted, "When I was a minister, my ministry in its affidavit about thedams in Uttarakhand in the Himalayas had requested that it is a very sensitiveregion, and, therefore, power projects should not be built on the Ganges andits main tributaries."
She said electricity shortfall could have been met bynational grid. She said she was earlier in Uttarkashi and now in Haridwar.
Meanwhile, after the bursting of glacier more than 12 aredeclared dead while over 170 people are still missing.
