ControversialIPS Officer Amitabh Thakur has been given premature retirement from his serviceafter terming him "not fit" for service.
Oncesuspended by Uttar Pradesh government in 2015 after he accused Samajwadi Partychief Mulayam Singh Yadav of "threatening" him, Ministry of HomeAffairs (MHA) on March 17 ordered him to retire.
Theorder copy was sent to the Uttar Pradesh government where Thakur was currentlyposted as an Inspector General of Police.
A1992-batch IPS, Thakur was given retirement orders even before the completionof his service with immediate effect in the public interest.
"Inthe public interest, Amitabh Thakur is being given premature retirement beforecompletion of his service with immediate effect," the Home Ministry ordersaid.
Asper the order, Thakur was "not found fit to be retained for the remainingtenure of his service". Thakurtook to Twitter to inform that he has been given a compulsory retirement by theHome Ministry.
Thakurfurther shared that he had just received the VRS order, stating that thegovernment no longer needs his services and hence given a premature retirement.
In2017, Thakur had urged the Centre to dispose of his request for change ofcadre, saying the "bias" against him does not exist anymore followingthe Samajwadi Party's rout in the polls.
Thakurhad earlier sent an application to the Ministry of Home Affairs for a change ofcadre from Uttar Pradesh to any other state, citing a threat to his life.
Ina letter to the Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, he said: "I hadsought cadre change in view of serious threat to my life and family afterMulayam Singh's phone call.
Thakurwas suspended on July 13, 2015, days after he had accused Mulayam Singh ofthreatening him. The state government had then initiated a vigilance inquiryagainst him. However, the Lucknow Bench of the Central Administrative Tribunalhad stayed the suspension of Thakur in April and ordered his reinstatement withfull salary with effect from October 11, 2015.
Thakurhad urged the Centre to transfer him to some other state till the departmentalinquiries against him got over, accusing some senior state government officials.
