Vaccine rumours: Experts say vaccine works like seat belt to save people from fatal mishaps

Doctor’s panel says that Covid vaccine reduces severity and minimizes hospitalization. Ludhiana DC interviews specialists to bust myths or misinformation

Todispel the rumours, hoaxes or superstitions surrounding the Covid-19 vaccine,the Ludhiana administration has come together with the renowned medicalspecialists to boost the vaccination among the eligible.

OnFriday, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma live interviewed panel ofthree specialist doctors including Dr Bishav Mohan from DMC Hospital, DrHarminder Singh Pannu from Fortis Hospital and Dr Kiran Gill Ahluwalia, Covidnodal officer Ludhiana on the Facebook page of District Administration.

Thesedoctors stressed that Covid vaccine reduces severity of illness, even if theperson gets an infection after taking the vaccine and reduces the chances ofhospitalization. They further emphasized that the vaccine will help to buildthe herd immunity hence it would help to contain the pandemic.

Givingexample of seat belt in vehicles, they said that as belt minimizes chances offatal mishap same like that the  vaccinealso protect human beings in case of infection, they would only suffer mildsymptoms.

Theysaid the vaccines have not any concern with infertility.

Theysaid that some residents are avoiding vaccination due to the myth that theyhave to avoid consuming alcohol for over a month which is not true.

Theyadded that if anyone have fever or throat infection or acute weakness, peoplemust avoid from some days.

Onthe question of one of residents whether a heart/kidney patient can takevaccine, answering this, Dr Bishav Mohan said that they must take vaccinewithout any kind of doubt and there is no need to stop blood thinner.

DrHarminder Singh Pannu explained about the efficiency of current two Covidvaccines on new mutant variants and made it clear that both Covishield andCovaxin are very much effective against new variants.

Shealso debunked the misinformation about difference between vaccines beingadministrated in government and private hospitals and said it is governmentwhich is supplying the vaccine to the private hospitals.

Ona question when the Covid will be over, they said that it mostly depends uponthe people as how they tackle it. They told that as much as we will continue toadhere to Covid appropriate behaviour, the pandemic will be contained at theearliest.

Weall must wear face masks, maintain social distancing and adopt hand hygienedaily otherwise we will. continue to face many more waves of contagion.
