WhatsApp Privacy Policy: Accept it or face lapses

What will the new privacy policy change for users?

WhatsApp has been in the limelight for its privacypolicy. There are speculations and misinformation about the privacy policy ofWhatsApp. The company has a stand that the privacy policy won't change anythingfor user but it will make some changes for business people.

Now the company has reported to have made a statement. WhatsApphas said that users who won't accept their new privacy policy; they will not beable to send and read messages on the platform with other users.

According to a report published in Tech Crunch, thecompany has emailed its merchant partners that it will gradually ask people toaccept its privacy policy. It will  beessential to have "full-functionality of the app."

The email done by the company also shares a link of itsupdated frequently asked questions page. Thispage mentions, "What happens on the effective date?"

"To give you enough time to review changes at yourown pace and convenience, we’ve extended the effective date to May 15th. If youhaven’t accepted by then, WhatsApp will not delete your account. However, youwon't have full functionality of WhatsApp until you accept. For a short time,you'll be able to receive calls and notifications, but won't be able to read orsend messages from the app."

It further mentions:

You have the following options:

  • You can still accept the updates after May 15th. Our policy related to inactive users will apply.
  • Before May 15th, you can export your chat history on Android or iPhone, and download a report of your account. If you’d like to delete your account on Android, iPhone, or KaiOS, we hope you reconsider. It is something we cannot reverse as it erases your message history, removes you from all of your WhatsApp groups, and deletes your WhatsApp backups.
