'With generation of maximum UDID cards, Jalandhar becomes leading district in state': claims DC

Appeals specially-abled persons to come forward for the enrollment and avail the benefit of various schemes, reiterates to further intensifying the drive and being a leading district in the state

With the concerted efforts of the district administrationto enroll and benefit specially abled persons, Jalandhar  has become a leading district in Punjab whichhas issued maximum Unique Disability Identity Cards (UDID) in the state. 

Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori today said that theadministration had received as many as 3510 applications on the portal of whicha total of 3134 UDID cards have successfully been generated in the district,which is the highest number in the state tally.

The Deputy Commissioner reiterated that the districtwould continue to maintain this pace and emerge as a leading district in issuingUDID cards in the state. He further mentioned that the directions were passedto the nodal agency i.e. health department to initiate a special drive toenroll and issue UDID cards to specially-abled persons.

Thori said that the health department was told to set upone camp in each Community-Primary Health Centre of the district and createawareness among the general public about camps in advance through MunicipalCouncillors/Sarpanchs/Asha workers so that the specially-abled persons can takemaximum benefit of the schemes.

He asked them to ensure enrolment of 500 specially-abledpersons daily through the camps and he has personally been reviewing theprogress of the enrolment and card generation task. He said that weakersections were an integral part of our society and reinforced his commitment toleave no stone unturned to provide them with all the necessary assistance. Thedeputy commissioner said that it was our duty to help the specially-abledpersons have basic facilities equal employment opportunities to that of others.

He appealed to all specially-abled persons to bring theirAadhaar Card, Voter Card, or any proof of age, passport size photograph, andothers for enrollment for UDID cards. The Deputy Commissioner said that UDIDcards can also be applied at Sewa Kendras and online personally.

Divulging more, he said that a panel of experts likeorthopedics, ENT and EYE specialists, psychiatrist, pediatrics, and othersphysically examine the applicants every Tuesday and Thursday before issuing adisability certificate.

Nodal Officer UDID scheme Dr. Anu said UDID cards wouldbe bearing a Quick Response (QR) code that helps in verifying the credentialsof specially-abled persons.
