Who was Colonel Hoshiar Singh Dahiya?

Hailing from Sisana village, Sonipat district, Haryana; Colonel Hoshiar Singh Dahiya was an Indian Army officer who was commissioned into The Grenadiers of the 3rd Battalion in 1963.

His early posting took him to NEFA (North Est Frontier Agency), where extreme terrain and isolation tested his endurance and adaptability.

During 1965 India-Pakistan war, Hoshiar Singh Dahiya got his first exposure to combat. H also defended India during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War.

In 1971, Col Hoshiar Singh Dahiya was serving as a Major and commanding Charlie Company. His company was assigned the crucial task of capturing the enemy-held locality of Jarpal.

Leading from the front under relentless fire, Major Hoshiar Singh guided his men across mined terrain and through a storm of artillery and small-arms fire, pressing the attack with determination and clarity of purpose.

Colonel Dahiya is a recipient of India's highest military honour, Param Vir Chakra (PVC), for his gallantry during the Indo-Pakistani war of 1971.
