Directed by Luis Estrada, The Dead Girls is based on Jorge Ibargüengoitia's acclaimed 1977 novel. The Novel was said to be loose based on real life serial-killing brothel owners in Mexico.
As per reports, the book is a fictionalized account of the González Valenzuela sisters who are named Baladro sisters in the novel as well as in the Netflix limited series.
The Baladro sisters operated a network of brothels in the state of Guanajuato during the 1960s and were ultimately convicted of numerous crimes, including the murders of their employees and their newborn children.
As per New York Times, the sisters were accused of murder of 81 women. Guinness World Records called them the "most prolific murder partnership".
There were a total of 4 sisters. At first, police arrested two sisters, Delfina González Valenzuela, 55, her sister María de Jesús, 40, and a handful of their helpers. A few weeks later police picked up a third sister, Eva.
It seems like Sarfina's character is inspired by 40-year-old María de Jesús.
