Rajya Sabha MPs from Punjab, Harbhajan Singh and Dr. Ashok Mittal, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday during a courtesy call and the meeting came 104 days after both leaders joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on April 24, 2026.

Harbhajan Singh shared details of the meeting through a social media post and said it was an honour to meet the Prime Minister and described the interaction as inspiring and according to him, the discussion focused on sports, youth opportunities and the country's development.

An introductory interaction

Harbhajan said Prime Minister Modi had invited the newly elected Rajya Sabha MPs for an introductory interaction and during the meeting, they discussed several national issues, he also said there was much to learn from the Prime Minister's words and appreciated his leadership and vision for the country's progress.

Present PM with ‘Punjabi Phulkari’

During the meeting, Dr. Ashok Mittal presented Prime Minister Modi with a traditional Punjabi Phulkari and he said the gift represented Punjab's rich cultural heritage and reflected the respect and affection of the people of the state.

Mittal described the meeting as a humbling and inspiring experience and said the Prime Minister's guidance on nation-building, public service and the vision of a developed India further strengthened his commitment to serving the nation.

What happened on April 24?

Harbhajan Singh and Ashok Mittal were elected to the Rajya Sabha from Punjab in 2022. On April 24 this year, they left the Aam Aadmi Party and joined the BJP along with several other Rajya Sabha MPs and the merger of the group with the BJP was later recognised by the Rajya Sabha Chairman.

The meeting was described by both MPs as a courtesy call, during which they shared their views with the Prime Minister and expressed their commitment to contributing to the country's development.
