The Jalandhar Police, along with the Municipal Corporation team, carried out an action against an alleged drug offender in Mithu Basti on Tuesday. A house located at House No. 1026, belonging to Vikram Singh alias Lucky, son of Manjit Singh, was demolished during the joint operation.
The action was reportedly carried out over alleged illegal construction at the property.
Police and MC team conduct joint operation
According to DCP Aditya Warrier, the Municipal Corporation had written to the police regarding the property, alleging that Vikram Singh had carried out an illegal construction and encroached upon the site.
The police accompanied the MC team to ensure that there was no obstruction during the demolition drive.
Vikram touches SHO’s feet during action
A notable moment during the operation was when Vikram Singh was found at the house as the police team arrived. As he came outside, he was seen touching the feet of SHO Gurdeep Singh.
When asked about the incident, DCP Aditya Warrier said that the matter was being examined. He added that Vikram had been detained and further action would be taken after the inquiry.
12 cases registered against Vikram
DCP Warrier said that police records show 12 cases registered against Vikram Singh. These reportedly include around seven Excise Act cases, two to three cases related to fights and three cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The police are now looking into his criminal record and the circumstances surrounding the incident involving the SHO.
MC cites illegal construction
A Municipal Corporation official said Vikram Singh had carried out construction at the house allegedly without proper authorisation. A notice had earlier been issued to him seeking a response and supporting documents.
According to the official, neither Vikram Singh nor his family submitted a response or produced documents supporting the construction. Following this, the MC proceeded with the demolition with police assistance.
Further action to follow
The police have detained Vikram Singh while the circumstances surrounding the case are being investigated. Officials said further action will be taken according to the findings of the inquiry and applicable rules.
