Family Had Moved to Bhargav Camp Around Two Months Ago
A case involving the alleged rape of a 14-year-old minor girl by a youth has come to light in Jalandhar’s West constituency. Police have registered a case against the accused under the POCSO Act and other relevant sections based on the girl’s complaint and have launched an investigation.
According to ACP Atish Bhatia, the victim’s family had shifted to the Bhargav Camp area around two months ago and lived on rent. The girl reportedly became acquainted with a migrant youth living in the neighbourhood.
Girl and Accused Had Been in Contact, Police Say
According to the complaint, the minor and the accused had been communicating with each other and would reportedly meet and spend time together.
Police said that one night, the accused allegedly called the girl to his house. The minor reportedly went there late at night without informing her family.
Alleged Sexual Assault at Accused’s House
The accused allegedly sexually assaulted the girl at his residence. After returning home, the minor reportedly told her mother about the incident.
Following this, the girl and her mother approached the police and lodged a complaint against the accused and statements of both have been recorded.
POCSO Case Registered, Investigation Underway
Police recorded the victim’s statement and registered a case against the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act along with other applicable sections.
Medical Examination Conducted; Arrest Efforts Underway
ACP Atish Bhatia said that the victim has undergone a medical examination. Police will take further action based on the medical report and the statement to be recorded before the court.
Meanwhile, police teams are conducting raids at different locations to trace the accused. Authorities said efforts are underway to arrest him at the earliest.
