'The Great IndiGo Mess' has disrupted India’s airline sector for the past three days. Passengers are waiting at various airports across the country for long hours to board their 'delayed' IndiGo flights. In some cases, after waiting for hours at the airport, IndiGo flights are being cancelled. Travellers are taking to social media platform X and lambasting the airline for the chaos witnessed nationwide.
Notably, IndiGo flight cancellations have impacted Punjab as well. From December 3 to December 5, a total of 22 IndiGo flights have been cancelled.
Bhupendra Singh, Amritsar Airport Director, informed True Scoop, that on December 5 i.e. today, a total of 6 IndiGo flights have been cancelled and so far in the past three days (including today) a total 22 IndiGo flights have been cancelled.
"6 flights of IndiGo have been cancelled today from Amritsar Airport. Four flights for Delhi, one for Pune, and one for Hyderabad. The disruption in IndiGo flight services is happening for 3 days- December 3, December 4 and December 5. Till now, a total of 22 IndiGo flights (including incoming and outgoing flights) have been cancelled."
When asked when IndiGo's flight services are expected to return to normalcy, Singh outlined that IndiGo has cancelled all domestic flights from Delhi today. The airline has taken this decision to start afresh and return services to normal soon
Delhi Airport on Friday issued a fresh passenger advisory, announcing that all IndiGo domestic flights departing from the airport are cancelled until midnight.
Delhi Airport took to social media 'X' and said, "IndiGo domestic flights departing from Delhi Airport on 5th December 2025 are cancelled till midnight today (till 23:59 hours). Operations for all other carriers remain as scheduled."
It further added, "Our dedicated on-ground teams are working diligently with all partners to mitigate the disruption and ensure a comfortable passenger experience. For the latest flight status, please check our official website www.newdelhiairport.in."
Earlier in the day, Delhi Airport issued a passenger advisory urging travellers to verify their flight status with airlines before heading to the airport. The announcement comes as IndiGo faces one of its most severe operational disruptions in recent years, resulting in widespread cancellations and delays.
IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers on Thursday admitted that the airline is going through severe operational turbulence, saying immediate priority remains to stabilise services and restore punctuality, even as achieving that "is not an easy target".
In an internal message to employees, Elbers admitted that IndiGo, India's largest carrier, has fallen short of delivering a satisfactory travel experience in recent days amid widespread disruptions that triggered passenger frustration.
On Thursday, IndiGo issued an apology that reads-
"The last two days have seen widespread disruption across IndiGo’s network and operations. We extend a heartfelt apology to all our customers and industry stakeholders who have been impacted by these events. IndiGo teams are working diligently and making all efforts with the support of MOCA, DGCA, BCAS, AAI and airport operators to reduce the cascading impact of these delays and restore normalcy.
We continue to keep our customers apprised of any changes to their scheduled flights and advise them to check the latest status at https://goindigo.in/check-flight-status.html before heading to the airport. IndiGo deeply regrets the inconvenience caused and remains focussed on streamlining its operations at the earliest."
