25 Kg Suspected MDMA Hidden in Soft Toys Seized at Amritsar Airport

Drug haul found stuffed in children’s plush toys during airport cargo inspection

AMRITSAR: Customs officials at Sri Guru Ram Dass ji International Airport achieved a major breakthrough after seizing more than 25 kilograms of suspected MDMA concealed inside soft toys and arresting one passenger in connection with the case.

According to officials, the accused passenger had arrived in Amritsar from Cambodia via Kuala Lumpur on flight MH-118. The action was carried out on the basis of APIS profiling and intelligence inputs.

During detailed screening and baggage examination, customs officials became suspicious and conducted an intensive search of the passenger’s luggage. X-ray scanning and physical inspection led to the recovery of a large quantity of tablets hidden inside four soft toys.

Officials said the total weight of the recovered tablets was around 25.25 kilograms. Preliminary investigation suggests that the seized substance is suspected to be Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), a prohibited narcotic substance under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

The customs department has seized the contraband and arrested the accused passenger under the NDPS Act. Further investigation is currently underway to identify other individuals linked to the international drug trafficking network and trace the complete smuggling route.

Officials described the seizure as a major success in the fight against international drug smuggling through Punjab routes.
