AAP launches 'biggest healthcare reform since Independence', ₹10 lakh health cards for 3 cr Punjabis

Without any terms and conditions, Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana ease the healthcare burden of the citizens and ensure quality healthcare for all

Termed as the 'biggest healthcare reform since Independence', Aam Aadmi Party government has launched Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana. Under the leadership of CM Bhagwant Singh Mann and AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, 3 crore residents of Punjab will get benefit of free health insurance scheme of Rs 10 lakh.

Without any terms and conditions, Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojana ease the healthcare burden of the citizens and ensure quality healthcare for all. This scheme aims to provide upto ₹10 lakh cashless health insurance cover to all families of Punjab per year.

This scheme is expected to benefit over 65 lakh families of the state. The government has not made any exclusion criteria in this scheme and has included each and every citizen of Punjab who has an Aadhar Card and a Voter ID; be it a pensioner, or a government employee or a private employee. People coming from all walks of life and all age groups are eligible to get enrolled.

Over 900 hospitals (private and government) in Punjab and Chandigarh have been empanelled with the Punjab government. Treatment for more than 2000 major and minor diseases will now be free of cost.

All sorts of medical packages from small surgeries to big critical care that patients need will be covered.

Taking a sharp dig at previous governments and Central welfare schemes, CM Mann said most earlier initiatives looked pro-poor on paper but excluded genuine beneficiaries due to unrealistic conditions. Referring to Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, he pointed out how families were declared ineligible simply for having a brick house, a bicycle, a fan, or even a gas stove.

He also criticised the Ujjwala Yojana, saying many families were labelled “well-off” after receiving a gas connection, only to be denied other benefits later.

Highlighting the difference, CM Mann said the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna covers every household in Punjab with no exclusion criteria—no blue card, no green card, no income cap. Under the scheme, every family will get up to ₹10 lakh cashless health insurance per year, covering all diseases, from minor treatments to major surgeries.
