A video purportedly showing Ludhiana South AAP MLA Rajinder Pal Kaur Chhina allegedly slapping a truck driver has surfaced on social media, leading to allegations of high-handedness against the ruling party leader and the footage, reportedly captured on CCTV, shows the MLA’s vehicle behind a truck on Daba Road.
According to the claims accompanying the video, the truck driver took some time to give way to the MLA’s vehicle.
The truck was subsequently stopped, following which Chhina is seen getting out of her vehicle and approaching the driver, she asks him to come down from the truck and is seen arguing with him. The video then appears to show her raising her hand towards the driver and allegedly slapping him.
Eyewitnesses claimed they were shocked by the incident and said there appeared to be no provocation from the driver and the video has since been widely circulated on social media.
Chhina, however, has given a different account of the incident and said the incident took place on Daba Road and claimed she had received a complaint from local residents about the truck driver allegedly driving rashly.
According to Chhina, she stopped the truck and asked the driver to hand over its keys and denied that she had slapped him, saying that she had raised her hand while trying to take the keys from him.
Chhina said she had already approached the Deputy Commissioner and other officials seeking restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles on the narrow roads in the area.
She further said that the matter was reported to the Daba police station and that she handed over the truck’s keys and the driver to the police and the MLA also claimed that she had a video in which the driver admitted to driving rashly. She said such driving on narrow roads could pose a risk to commuters.
