AAP surges ahead with 9,142 votes lead after 11th round in Tarn Taran bypoll

The Congress nominee stood at 10,475 votes, while the BJP trailed with 4,216 votes.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Harmeet Singh Sandhu continued to consolidate his position in the Tarn Taran Assembly bypoll, widening his lead to 9,142 votes after the 11th round of counting. The steady rise in his margin through the day has strengthened AAP’s confidence as the contest enters its final stages.

Sandhu’s tally climbed to 29,965 votes, maintaining a comfortable edge over his nearest rival, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate, who secured 20,823 votes by the end of the 11th round. SAD, which started strong in the morning, has struggled to close the gap as AAP maintained consistent gains in successive rounds.

Independent candidate Mandeep Singh Khalsa (Waris Punjab De) retained the third position with 13,142 votes, continuing to perform ahead of the Congress, which has failed to make a significant impact in the bypoll. The Congress nominee stood at 10,475 votes, while the BJP trailed with 4,216 votes.

Officials said the turnout patterns across key booths have so far worked in AAP’s favour, especially in rural pockets where Sandhu has been able to consolidate support. With each round further widening the lead, AAP workers at the counting centre appeared upbeat, though party leaders said they were waiting for more rounds before making any formal claims.

Counting continues, and the next rounds are expected to indicate whether AAP’s widening margin stabilises or grows further as the bypoll moves toward its conclusion.
