Activa rider killed after tipper hits him on 100-Foot Road, Amritsar; CCTV footage surfaces

The family demanded that action should not be limited to the driver alone. They urged to proceed against anyone else found responsible during the investigation.

An Activa rider lost his life in a tragic road accident on Amritsar's 100-Foot Road after being hit by a tipper truck. The victim was riding his scooter when a tipper coming from behind rammed into him. The impact threw him onto the road, and he was run over by the heavy vehicle, resulting in his death on the spot.

Identification of the victim

The victim is identified as Gursimran Singh, a 35-year-old who lost his life in a tragic road accident on Amritsar's 100-Foot Road after being hit by a tipper truck. According to the family, Gursimran Singh is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter, and his death has devastated the entire family.

Sequence of the events

Speaking to the media, ACP Ravinder Pal Singh said that according to the preliminary investigation, Gursimran Singh was travelling on his Activa towards 100-Foot Road when the tipper struck him from behind. The impact threw him onto the road, and he was run over by the heavy vehicle, resulting in his death on the spot. CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced, clearly showing the Activa rider falling onto the road after the collision before the tipper runs over him.

Statements by the police officials

ACP Ravinder Pal Singh said that the police have launched a detailed investigation, and strict legal action will be taken against anyone found responsible for negligence. The ACP confirmed that the tipper driver has been taken into custody and a case has been registered against him. Further legal proceedings are underway. He added that the victim's post-mortem examination will be conducted and every possible effort will be made to ensure the accused is punished according to law. He further stated that the police are also investigating how the tipper entered the route before the permitted time. If negligence is found at any level, appropriate action will also be taken against those responsible

Family statements

The victim's family expressed deep grief over the incident and questioned why heavy tipper trucks were allowed to enter a no-entry zone. They said the area has schools and a densely populated residential locality with heavy traffic throughout the day, making the movement of such heavy vehicles extremely dangerous. The victim's family continues to demand strict legal action against those responsible and justice for Gursimran Singh. The family also demanded that action should not be limited to the driver alone. They urged the authorities to proceed against the tipper owner and anyone else found responsible during the investigation. They warned that if justice is not delivered, they would be compelled to launch a protest.

Appeal by the police

ACP Ravinder Pal Singh also appealed to shopkeepers across the city to cooperate with the administration by removing illegal encroachments and signboards extending onto roads. He said encroachments along busy roads such as 100-Foot Road, Chheharta Road, and Sultanwind Road will be cleared to ensure smoother traffic movement. Shopkeepers, he added, have assured the administration of their cooperation.
