Adampur Records 6°C as Nights Turn Colder, Pollution Continue to Spike

Temperatures across Punjab are expected to dip further by 2°C to 4°C over the next four days.

Punjab and Chandigarh are witnessing a steady drop in temperatures, with Adampur emerging as the coldest location in the region. According to the Meteorological Department, Adampur recorded a minimum temperature of just 6°C, marking one of the sharpest declines of this season. Weather officials say night temperatures across Punjab are expected to dip further by 2°C to 4°C over the next four days.

Across the state, day and night temperatures showed a downward trend. The average maximum temperature has fallen by 0.1°C, bringing it closer to normal levels. Bathinda recorded the highest maximum temperature at 28.1°C.

Light fog was also observed in a few areas in the morning hours.

Air Quality Worsens Due to Stubble Burning

Despite colder weather, the issue of air pollution continues to trouble residents. Stubble burning across Punjab has kept the air quality in “poor” to “very poor” ranges in multiple districts. At 6 am today, the Air Quality Index (AQI) levels were:

  • Amritsar: 104

  • Jalandhar: 126

  • Khanna: 126

  • Ludhiana: 157

  • Mandi Gobindgarh: 190

  • Patiala: 147

Chandigarh also recorded poor air quality, with Sector-22 and Sector-25 at 166 and Sector-53 at 148.
Doctors have advised residents — especially children, the elderly and those with respiratory issues — to wear masks while stepping outdoors in the cold weather.

Stubble Burning Cases Drop Sharply

Between 15 September and 24 November 2025, Punjab reported 5,088 stubble-burning incidents. This marks a significant decline compared to:

  • 10,909 cases in 2024 (53% higher)

  • 36,663 cases in 2023 (86% higher)

  • 71,304 cases in 2021

Officials say the Punjab Pollution Control Board has intensified surveillance and enforcement measures this year, contributing to the drop in cases.
