Recently, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has appointed IAS Anindita Mitra as the new Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Punjab. Before this, Anindita Mitra served as the Administrative Secretary of Punjab. During her tenure she oversaw the portfolios that included: Higher Education and Language, School Education and Co-Operation. Earlier, she also served as a Municipal Commissioner of Chandigarh from the year 2021 to 2024 and CEO of Chandigarh Smart City Limited wherein, she used to overlook urban development and smart city initiatives.
Anindita Mitra is a 2007-batch officer belonging the Punjab cadre. She also served as the Deputy Commissioner in Nawanshahr and Hoshiarpur, and as the Additional Deputy Commissioner in Patiala. As per reports, The Punjab Government had forwarded three names of IAS officers for the post of CEO. Anindita Mitra was in the list among, Ramvir and Sonali Giri.
Anindita had secured 8th rank in her UPSC exams in the year 2007 nationally and was the women topper. Another big and important achievement of Anindita was the work she did for the civic transformation in Chandigarh. She successfully implemented 100% waste segregation and bioremediation at the Dadumajra landfill in Chandigarh. Now she will succeed IAS Sibin C in this new role as the Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab. Now, the previous CEO of Punjab, Sibin C has been given the charge of Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
