Punjab has been witnessing chilling cold ever since the month of January 2026 has started. Minimum temperature in multiple Punjab districts are continuing to remain below 5°C. Not only this, but the India Meteorological Department (IMD) of Chandigarh unit has been putting districts of Punjab on orange as well as yellow alert for dense to very dense fog. Hence, Punjab is also witnessing dense fog especially during the night-time and early day-time.
Punjab is all set to celebrate Lohri 2026 on January 13, 2026 and it was expected that the state may witness some relief from cold after the festival. However, it seems like cold weather in Punjab is likely to persist even after Lohri.
In fact, weather platform, AccuWeather has predicted that multiple districts of Punjab are likely to receive up to 2-days of rainfall after Lohri 2026.
As per AccuWeather, Jalandhar is expected to witness two days of rainfall on January 19 and January 20, 2026.
Ludhiana is expected to witness up to three days of rainfall- January 19, 20 and January 23, 2026.
Amritsar is also expected to witness up to three days of rainfall- January 19, 20 and 21.
Kapurthala is expected to witness two days of rainfall- January 19 and January 21.
Pathankot is expected to witness up to five days of rainfall after Lohri- January 19, 20, 21, 22, and 24.
In the meantime, IMD Chandigarh has issues its latest update on Punjab Weather from January 10 to January 14, 2026. The weather department has issued orange and yellow alert for dense fog in Punjab.
January 10- (Orange alert for very dense fog)- Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Faridkot, and Bathinda.
Except Rupnagar, Mohali all are on yellow alert for dense fog.
January 11- Except Rupnagar, Mohali all districts are on yellow alert for dense fog.
January 12- Except Ferozepur, Faridkot, Bathinda, Muktasar, and Fazilka; all districts are on yellow alert for dense fog.
January 13- Except Ferozepur, Faridkot, Bathinda, Muktasar, and Fazilka; all districts are on yellow alert for dense fog.
January 14- Except Ferozepur, Faridkot, Bathinda, Muktasar, and Fazilka; all districts are on yellow alert for dense fog.
