Amritsar Civil Surgeon Dr. Satinderjit Singh Bajaj got injured in a road accident near PAP Chowk in Jalandhar on Friday and according to information available he had recently been transferred to Amritsar and had come to Jalandhar to visit his elderly mother.
After meeting her Dr. Bajaj was on his way back to Amritsar to resume his official duties.
While he was near PAP Chowk a truck standing behind him reportedly started reversing and eyewitnesses said the driver allegedly reversed heavy vehicle without checking the area behind it and was unaware that Dr. Bajaj was standing there and the truck hit Dr. Bajaj causing him to fall on road while people present at the spot immediately raised an alarm and shouted at the driver to stop the vehicle and due to quick response of local residents and passersby the truck was stopped immediately. Eyewitnesses said that people at scene worked hard to pull injured doctor out from underneath vehicle and although truck was reportedly moving at a slow speed the impact caused serious injuries to Dr. Bajaj and he suffered deep wounds on different parts of his body and was bleeding heavily after the accident and he was quickly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Doctors treating him said that his condition is stable and that he is out of danger meanwhile police reached the spot soon after the incident and the truck driver was taken into custody and police have started questioning him and currently further investigation into the accident is underway while more details are awaited as authorities continue their inquiry into the incident.
