In a major breakthrough under Punjab Police's ongoing anti-drug campaign, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled a cross-border drug smuggling network operating with the support of handlers based across the international border. Two accused have been arrested, and police recovered 8.378 kilograms of heroin along with ₹2 lakh in suspected drug money from their possession.

Preliminary investigation

According to the preliminary investigation, the arrested individuals were acting on the instructions of cross-border smugglers. Their primary role was to collect consignments of heroin from designated locations and distribute them across different districts of Punjab. Investigators believe the network may have links to an international drug trafficking syndicate, and efforts are underway to uncover its wider operations.

FIRs on the accused

Separate FIRs have been registered at Chheharta Police Station and Islamabad Police Station. Police teams are conducting detailed interrogations of the accused to identify their associates, trace the masterminds operating from across the border, and expose the complete supply chain behind the smuggling racket. Investigators are also trying to determine the total quantity of narcotics that may have been trafficked through this network in recent months.

Busting the network

Officials said the investigation is not limited to the two arrested suspects. The focus is on dismantling the entire trafficking network by identifying every individual involved, tracking financial transactions, and gathering technical evidence to establish the full extent of the operation. Police are also examining whether the accused had connections with other drug suppliers and distributors operating in different parts of Punjab.

Punjab Police reiterated its commitment to making the state drug-free and intensifying its crackdown on cross-border narcotics smuggling. Officials stated that strict action against drug traffickers will continue without exception, and no individual involved in the illegal trade will be spared.
