In a major breakthrough, the Amritsar Rural Police busts a major narco-arms consignment with the assistance of the Village Defense Committee (VDC). The operation has lead to recovery of 42.983 kg heroin and four hand grenades, one Star Mark pistol, 46 live .30 bore cartridge, and an abandoned motorcycle. The operation has subsequently led to the arrest of two people, both residents of Amritsar. DGP Gaurav Yadav has confirmed about the seizure and arrests in a post on X.
It is being reported that the seized heroin is worth over Rs 200 crore. The recovery was made from Othian village in Rajasansi constituency of Amritsar. As per the information, the contraband was smuggled into India from Pakistan packed in black packets via drones. The DGP has confirmed that further investigation into the case is underway and a police hunt is on to trace the absconding accused. The police is actively working to establish the chain of possession and uncover the wider conspiracy at play.
Upon learning about the incident, the in-charge of the Rajasansi constituency, Sonia Mann also reached the spot to assess the situation. Talking further about it she says that the Punjab government under the abled leadership of Bhagwant Singh Mann has been continuously taking action against drugs under the “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign.
As of now, the police remain committed to dismantle drugs and arms network and ensuring peace and security across Punjab. Senior police officials have also lauded the role played by the Village Defense Committee in this operation.
