Love marriage ends in death: Army jawan arrested for killing wife

Patiala police arrest husband, probe whether car plunge was a planned killing

In a shocking and tragic incident reported from Patiala, Punjab, an Indian Army soldier has been arrested for allegedly murdering his wife by deliberately driving their car into the Bhakra Canal. The incident has sent shockwaves through the region. The incident reportedly took place on June 23 near the Pasiana Bridge on the Patiala-Sangrur Road. Investigators suspect that he intentionally drove the vehicle into the Bhakra Canal, causing it to plunge into the fast-flowing water.

The accused, identified as Happy Singh, allegedly took his wife, 30-year-old Ramandeep Kaur, for a drive before reaching the canal. Police said that while Happy Singh managed to swim to safety and escape from the canal, Ramandeep Kaur remained trapped inside the submerged car. She was unable to get out of the car, and died of drowning. The police was reported soon after the incident took place. Acting on the information, police officials and divers launched an extended rescue operation to save Ramandeep’s life. After several hours of intensive efforts, the rescue team was successful in locating and retrieving the car from the canal. Unfortunately, Ramandeep was found dead inside the car. Her body was recovered and sent for further medical and legal procedures.

During the investigation, police found that the couple got married in 2024. The couple did not receive any kind of support from the family as it was an inter caste marriage. In addition to this, the couple themselves were not living a happy married life and arguments and disagreements persisted since the wedding. In the preliminary investigation, it was also found that Happy did not want to enter into the married life but was forced by Ramandeep despite of all family objections. At the time of the incident, Happy Singh was posted in Assam as part of his Army service. However, investigators are examining whether the incident was the result of a long-standing domestic dispute or a pre-planned act.

A complaint was filed against the husband by victim’s brother, Gurjeet Singh. Thereafter the police arrested Happy. Authorities are now investigating the case from the angle of a possible conspiracy and are scrutinizing all available evidence, including witness statements and forensic findings.

The case has drawn widespread attention due to its disturbing nature. If the allegations are proven in court, it could emerge as a tragic example of how unresolved marital conflicts, family disapproval, and deteriorating relationships can lead to devastating consequences. Police officials have stated that the investigation is ongoing and further revelations may emerge in the coming days.
