A drone-related incident that recently created concern among residents of Haripur village near Adampur has now been officially clarified by police and authorities have confirmed that drone found inside a government school premises was not linked to any suspicious activity.
According to an official clarification issued by Rajiv Kumar, DSP Adampur a news report had been circulating on social media claiming that a drone was recovered from a government school in Adampur, Jalandhar and soon after receiving the information about the incident DSP Adampur and SHO Adampur immediately visited the location and conducted an on the spot verification.
During the inquiry officials found that the object was a drone being operated by Army personnel as part of a testing exercise and clarifying the same the police said that the drone had gone out of its operational range during test and unintentionally landed inside school premises.
Authorities have clearly stated that no suspicious activity has been found in connection with the incident and the matter was verified at the spot itself and officials have assured public that there is no reason for concern.
The incident had initially caused worry among local residents as earlier reports suggested that a drone had suddenly come down in the playground of a government school in Haripur village while children were playing there following which villagers informed local authorities after the device was noticed in school grounds.
Village Sarpanch Nirmal Ram had said that children playing in school playground spotted the drone after it came down near them and then the children informed village elders who then contacted police.
After receiving input police officials reached the location and examined the drone.
This consequently had led to concerns among villagers as many did not know where drone had come from or who was operating it however after verification by police and discussions with concerned authorities it was established that the drone belonged to Army personnel and had landed there accidentally during testing operations.
Police officials have appealed to residents not to pay attention to rumours or unverified information being circulated on social media and they have reiterated that the situation is completely under control and that no security threat has been found in connection with the drone.
Authorities have advised people to rely only on official information and confirmed updates regarding such incidents.
