Bathinda Murder: Kamal Kaur Case Accused Mehro Arrested

Punjab Police brings Amritpal Mehro from Middle East; held in Bathinda murder case after Interpol Red Notice

Reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy against anti-social elements, the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has achieved a major breakthrough in the Bathinda-based Kamal Kaur murder case with the arrest of the prime accused, Amritpal Singh Mehro.

The accused has been brought back to Punjab from the Middle East by Punjab Police. The operation was carried out by the Counter Intelligence Wing through its OFTEC (Organised Crime and Technical Enforcement Cell).

Kamal Kaur’s body was recovered on June 11, 2025, from the parking area of Adesh Hospital in Bathinda. The postmortem report confirmed that she was murdered by strangulation.

During the investigation, Punjab Police had identified three associates — Jaspreet Singh, Nimratjit Singh, and Ranjit Singh — as co-accused in the case. All three have already been arrested.

After committing the crime, Amritpal Singh Mehro fled to Dubai and remained absconding for a long period. On February 7, 2026, a Bathinda court declared him a proclaimed offender.

Following the court’s orders, Punjab Police initiated proceedings through Interpol and succeeded in getting a Red Corner Notice issued against him, which ultimately led to his arrest and return to India.

Police sources said further investigation is underway, and the accused will be produced before the court for custodial interrogation to uncover more details.

The arrest is being seen as a strong step by the Bhagwant Mann government in its continued crackdown on crime, sending a clear message that offenders cannot escape the law, even if they flee abroad.
