The BJP’s statewide ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ reached Talwandi Sabo as the party continued its campaign against drug abuse across Punjab.
Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh and Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon held discussions with villagers in Talwandi Sabo on the issue of drugs and during the interaction, the BJP leaders spoke about the impact of drug abuse on families and the party’s campaign for a drug-free Punjab.
Chouhan said that drugs would be eradicated once a BJP government is formed in Punjab and he also said the BJP’s campaign had received public support and called for collective efforts to address drug abuse.
During his visit, Chouhan also performed ‘sewa’ by washing utensils at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib in Talwandi Sabo.
Speaking about the campaign, Chouhan said the BJP would continue visiting Punjab as part of its anti-drug drive. And he also challenged the AAP government to stop him from continuing the campaign if it had the strength to do so.
The Talwandi Sabo programme marked the launch of the fourth route of the BJP’s ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ and the statewide campaign was launched on September 18 from Pathankot by BJP national president Nitin Nabin.
The BJP has planned four separate yatras covering around 4,000 kilometres and all 117 Assembly constituencies of Punjab and the campaign is scheduled to conclude in Jalandhar on September 30, where Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to address the concluding programme.
At the campaign’s launch in Pathankot, Nitin Nabin had described the initiative as an effort to move Punjab away from its association with drugs and towards what the party calls “Rising Punjab” or “Ubharta Punjab” and an anti-drug helpline, 97149-02027, was also launched during the Pathankot programme.
The BJP has said the campaign is aimed at creating a mass movement against drug abuse and addressing its impact on Punjab’s families and youth and with the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections approaching, the yatra is also taking the BJP’s anti-drug message across all 117 constituencies before its September 30 concluding programme in Jalandhar.
