A major explosion has been reported from Sirhind in Fatehgarh Sahib. As per reports, a late-night explosion took place on the railway line in the Sirhind area that is believed to be caused by RDX. The incident occurred around 11 PM when a freight train was passing over a newly constructed railway line.
As per the information, the new railway line was specifically built for the operation of freight trains. Just as the engine approached the Khanpur level crossing, a powerful explosion was reported. Sources reveal that the explosion completely destroyed around three to four feet of the railway track.
It is being reported that the train driver has sustained injuries due to the blast. Following the incident, the injured driver was taken to the hospital for assistance. The area was gripped with panic after the blast and the railway authorities were also informed.
Ropar Range DIG Nanak Singh confirmed that a blast has took place, talking further about the incident he explains that investigation is underway to determine what was exactly used in the explosion. He adds that an inter-agency coordination is currently going on and a scientific investigation is underway into the incident. He further informs that there was no loss of life or major loss of property reported. He also affirms that the tracks would reopen soon.
