C7 Railway Crossing reopens in Jalandhar, new underpass sanctioned, milestone for Mayor World

This achievement is truly exceptional, as once a railway crossing is closed, it is almost never reopened under the policies of the Ministry of Railways.

In a remarkable and heart-warming development, Mayor World School is proud to announce that the C7 railway crossing near the School has finally been reopened. Humble thanks are extended to the Indian Railways for this momentous decision, which shall be remembered as a milestone in the city’s civic history.

This achievement is truly exceptional, as once a railway crossing is closed, it is almost never reopened under the policies of the Ministry of Railways. Yet, through collective determination, sustained communication, and continuous follow-up at every level, this long-standing public demand has finally been fulfilled.

A large number of residents had repeatedly met Mr Rajesh Mayor, Chairman of Mayor World School & Mayor Group, urging him to intervene and help reopen the crossing.

The closure had caused immense hardship to the public, particularly those without personal transport — daily wage earners, street vendors, and small shopkeepers.

The impact extended to nearly 2.5 to 3 lakh residents of Urban Estate Phase 1 and adjoining areas, including students, women, children, and senior citizens. Even access to the cremation ground of a particular community was severely affected, forcing people to take a long, inconvenient detour. The existing Subhana underpass was unsafe for pedestrians, rehris, thelas, cyclists, and two-wheelers due to the absence of proper footpaths and protective infrastructure.

Complementing this encouraging development, the Railways have also sanctioned a brand-new underpass at the same C7 location, with work expected to commence shortly.

The combination of the reopened crossing and the newly approved underpass will transform the connectivity landscape for the entire Urban Estate and neighbouring localities.

Parents, students, staff, and residents will now benefit from multiple safe, fast, and convenient access routes, easing congestion and improving safety. It is, in every sense, a gift from the Government to the people — one that brings both relief and pride to the community.

A Collective Effort and a Triumph of Persistence

This historic outcome is the result of months of dedicated effort and coordination among various authorities and public representatives. The Management of Mayor World School took the initiative to consistently engage with the concerned departments, underlining the daily inconvenience and safety concerns caused by the closure.

The matter was pursued with commitment, sincerity, and patience, always in the spirit of public welfare.

The School Management expresses its deepest gratitude to all who stood by this cause. The leadership and cooperation of Dr Himanshu Aggarwal, Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar, and Sh Rishi, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Jalandhar, were pivotal in facilitating communication and ensuring that all procedural requirements were completed promptly and efficiently. Their hands-on involvement and good governance deserve the highest appreciation.

A special word of thanks goes to Sh Sushil Rinku, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (BJP, Lok Sabha), whose personal commitment ensured that the case reached the Ministry of Railways and received due attention at the national level. His continuous engagement and dialogue with the Railway Minister were instrumental in turning a long-standing aspiration into reality.

The School and community also extend heartfelt thanks to Dr Ashok Mittal, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Chancellor, Lovely Professional University, for his guidance, encouragement, and consistently positive approach. His advocacy for improved urban planning and educational access has been deeply appreciated.

Acknowledging the Officials Who Made It Happen

Special appreciation is due to the dedicated officers of the Railways whose diligence and foresight brought this project to fruition. Xen Rampal Ji displayed immense professionalism and resolve, ensuring that every technical and procedural aspect was handled with precision.

Equally commendable were the efforts of Sh Saurabh Sandhu, a visionary, young, and dynamic officer whose thoughtful approach, calm execution, and forward-looking mindset were central to this achievement. His commitment to public service and his pragmatic problem-solving style reflect the best qualities of a new generation of administrators who focus on results rather than obstacles.

The School also conveys its gratitude to the Public Works Department, Police Department, and local engineering teams, who coordinated tirelessly to manage on-ground logistics and safety. Their cooperation and efficiency have been truly exemplary.

Mayor World School would also like to place on record its sincere thanks to all political representatives, councillors, and local leaders, especially Mr Mintu Juneja and Mr Sartaj, as well as the various residents’ associations who offered their moral and logistical support throughout this campaign. Every signature, every meeting, and every encouraging word added momentum to this collective effort.

A special note of appreciation is extended to the media fraternity — print, and digital for their sensitive and balanced coverage of the issue. By consistently highlighting the daily struggles and harassment faced by the public after the sudden closure of the crossing, they ensured that the voice of the common man reached the authorities. Their responsible journalism played a key role in mobilising public attention and administrative action, ultimately leading to this victory for the people of Jalandhar.

The School recognises the extraordinary patience and faith shown by its parents, students, staff, and the local community. Their cooperation and trust motivated the Management to continue its pursuit even when the process seemed endless.

A Message from the School Management

Speaking on the occasion, Mrs Charu Trehan, Vice Principal of Mayor World School, shared her thoughts:

“The reopening of the C7 railway crossing is not merely an infrastructural development — it is a triumph of community spirit and determination. When people unite for a rightful cause, success is inevitable. The sanctioning of a new underpass alongside the reopening ensures that Jalandhar will benefit from smoother traffic management, greater safety, and easier access for all, especially school-going children. We remain deeply grateful to every individual and department whose contribution has made this achievement possible.”

The Management reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with civic authorities for the continuous enhancement of public infrastructure and child safety. With the upcoming underpass and improved connectivity, the Mayor World School community looks forward to a future where education, environment, and urban development advance hand in hand.
