Cold grip loosens in Punjab, gradual rise in temperature ahead

IMD Chandigarh has predicted no major changes in the minimum temperatures for the next 3 days but a gradual rise of 2 to 3 degrees is on the cards thereafter.

The weather in Punjab has seen a significant change in the past few days as a slight rise in the mercury has been observed. This slight shift has brought a little relief to the residents from the biting cold that had tightened its grip on the state for a while.

According to the report of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chandigarh, the weather pattern in the state has remained in the dry category. As of today (Thursday) the highest maximum temperature that was recorded in the state was 25.6°C in Ludhiana, whereas, Amritsar recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state 6.9 °C. 

Light rainfall on cards 

Talking about the progressing week, two fresh Western Disturbances are likely to affect Western Himalayan region in quick succession, one from 13th and another from 16th February 2026. The Western Disturbance as a trough in middle & upper tropospheric westerlies with its axis at 5.8 km above mean sea level roughly along Long. 80°E to the north of Lat. 27°N has moved away in east north-eastwards direction.

This is likely to trigger light rainfall in isolated places across the state on February 17, bringing along thunderstorm and lightening. However, the weather is likely to remain dry from February 12 to 15. The IMD Chandigarh has predicted no major changes in the minimum temperatures for the next 3 days but a gradual rise of 2 to 3 degrees is on the cards thereafter.   

IMD Chandigarh has not issued any weather warnings or alerts for the upcoming week as of now.
