Chief Electoral Office Clarifies Status of Electoral Rolls
The Chief Electoral Office Punjab has clarified that the electoral rolls published on August 13 were draft electoral rolls and not the final voter lists for the state.
According to sources in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab, the matter concerning entries in the rolls has been examined and necessary action is being taken in accordance with the instructions issued by the Election Commission.
Final Voter List Due on October 12
The office has made it clear that the entries will be reflected as per the Commission's instructions in the final electoral roll, which is scheduled to be published across Punjab on October 12.
The clarification comes amid attention surrounding the electoral rolls and the status of entries appearing in the recently published lists.
Draft Roll vs Final Roll
The August 13 publication was part of the electoral roll process, allowing entries to be examined and dealt with before the final list is issued. Any changes required in accordance with the Election Commission's directions will therefore be reflected in the final version.
For Punjab voters, the October 12 publication will be the key date, when the final electoral rolls are released after completion of the prescribed process.
